Application of Hydraulic Geometry to High Gradient Rivers in Southern Ecuador

چکیده

Using hydraulic geometry (HG) theory, we investigated three rivers typical of the Ecuadorian mountainous region with longitudinal slopes ranging from 0.8% to 10% and coarse bed material d50 3 54 mm values d90 up 908 mm. Extensive field measurements were performed characterize geometric properties at 33 sites. these data, at-a-station HG relationships obtained for top width, average flow depth, velocity. Dimensional dimensionless downstream relations parameters as well channel slope using bankfull discharge estimated HG. The correlation coefficients indicate that equations adequately represent observed data all quantities exception slope. In addition a low coefficient, exponent on non-dimensional was small in relation This indicates is not dependent discharge. Based this finding, reformulated both independent variables. These new show improved demonstrate role determining velocity high gradient rivers.

Downstream hydraulic geometry of alluvial rivers

This article presents a three-level approach to the analysis of downstream hydraulic geometry. First, empirical concepts based on field observations of ‘poised’ conditions in irrigation canals are examined. Second, theoretical developments have been made possible by combining basic relationships for the description of flow and sediment transport in alluvial rivers. Third, a relatively new conce...

development of analytical model on determination of stable hydraulic geometry of alluvial gravel bed rivers

modeling the hydraulic geometry of gravel rivers is of intrest to hydraulic engineers, hydrologists and enviromental scientists who are engaged in predicting the adjustments of an alluvial channel to an altered upstream runoff or sediment supply. the widely used qualitative and regime models, while indicating the general direction of river adjustment, are not able to deal with river response at...

Internal connectivity of meandering rivers: Statistical generalization of channel hydraulic geometry

The geometry of rivers has been characterized in terms of downstream and at-a-station hydraulic geometry, based on individual cross sections. Such analyses do not, however, provide insight as to how these cross sections are connected. We generalize the concept of hydraulic geometry, using data on bathymetry from four reaches of meandering rivers that include at least five bends. We quantify con...

Application of classification trees-J48 to model the presence of roach (Rutilus rutilus) in rivers

In the present study, classification trees (CTs-J48 algorithm) were used to study the occurrence of roach in rivers in Flanders (Belgium). The presence/absence of roach was modelled based on a set of river characteristics. The predictive performance of the CTs models was assessed based on the percentage of Correctly Classified Instances (CCI) and Cohen's kappa statistics. To find the best model...
